Humanistic legal sciences: notes for a rescue on fundamental research in law

This paper proposes a reflection on fundamental research in law, which, according to Paulo Ferreira da Cunha, has its own name: humanistic legal sciences. In this sense, it addresses a problem identified five decades ago by Francisco Puy in Spain and taken up by Sebastião Cruz and Paulo Ferreira da Cunha in Portugal: the displacement, reduction or exclusion of humanistic legal sciences from the teaching plans of law courses, which has been creating a scenario of “epistemological sterility”. When not excluded, these sciences are attacked or are the object of disregard by many practical lawyers and students, who unthinkingly and blindly reproduce a posture of overvaluing dogmatic-legal knowledge to the detriment of legal-humanistic knowledge. The aim is thus to rescue the role of humanistic legal sciences in legal education, in addition to presenting the main arguments in defence of Puy, Cruz and Ferreira da Cunha

Avaliação da sustentabilidade de soluções de reabilitação energética para coberturas de um edifício de habitação

A construção de novos edifícios, infraestruturas e a reabilitação deve reger-se pelos princípios de desenvolvimento sustentável. A reabilitação de edifícios pode contribuir para uma melhoria do desempenho ambiental das cidade e da qualidade de vida dos seus cidadãos. O presente trabalho tem como finalidade otimizar, sob o ponto de vista de eficiência energética e sustentabilidade, a solução de reabilitação a aplicar na cobertura de um caso de estudo. Para a avaliação do nível de sustentabilidade de diferentes soluções de reabilitação da envolvente vertical exterior dos edifícios, isto é do seu nível de desempenho global baseado em indicadores ambientais, sociais e económicos, será utilizada a Metodologia de Avaliação Relativa da Sustentabilidade de Soluções Construtivas (MARS-SC). Os resultados obtidos neste estudo resultam da aplicação da referida metodologia a um caso de estudo. A aplicação a um caso de estudo, correspondente a um edifício unifamiliar convencional em Portugal, permitiu avaliar a influência da solução de reabilitação nos impactes ambientais incorporados, no consumo de energia e nos custos de operação

A indústria da construção tem um papel de destaque no Desenvolvimento Sustentável, contribuindo de forma significativa para os impactes ambientais, sociais e económicos da humanidade. A construção de novos edifícios e infraestruturas e a sua reabilitação devem reger-se pelos princípios de desenvolvimento sustentável. A reabilitação de edifícios pode contribuir para uma melhoria do desempenho ambiental das cidades e da qualidade de vida dos seus cidadãos. O presente trabalho pretende contribuir para o desenvolvimento sustentável através da identificação e seleção de soluções construtivas e materiais para a reabilitação de paredes exteriores de um edifício, de modo a que sejam o mais compatíveis possível com os objetivos do desenvolvimento sustentável

A personalized rehabilitation system based on wireless motion capture sensors

We live in an aging society, an issue that will be exacerbated in the coming decades, due to low birth rates and increasing life expectancy. With the decline in physical and cognitive functions with age, it is of the utmost importance to maintain regular physical activity,in order to preserve an individual’s mobility, motor capabilities and coordination. Within this context, thispaper describes the development of a wireless sensor network and its application in a human motion capturesystem based on wearable inertial and magnetic sensors. The goal is to enable, through continuous real-time monitoring, the creation of a personalized home-based rehabilitation system for the elderly population and/or injured people. Within this system, the user can benefit from an assisted mode, in which their movements can be compared to a reference motion model of the same movements, resulting in visual feedback alerts given by the application. Phytogeographical classification of the Upper Xingu River forest

Este trabalho propõe a inclusão da categoria Floresta Estacional Perenifólia no sistema oficial de classificação da vegetação brasileira, devido às particularidades florísticas e fisionômicas da floresta da borda sul-amazônica, que atinge maior amplitude geográfica na região do Alto Rio Xingu. Para justificar essa inclusão são apresentadas as características ambientais (clima, solo, hidrologia) e diferenças fisionômicas e florísticas entre as florestas do Alto Xingu e demais florestas ombrófilas da Bacia do Amazonas e estacionais do Planalto Central.This paper proposes the inclusion of the Evergreen Seasonal Forest category in the official system used to classify Brazilian forests. This proposal is based upon the floristic and physiognomic particularities of the Southern Amazonian forest, which reach a greater magnitude around the Upper Xingu River. In order to justify the inclusion, the paper reports environmental characteristics (climate, soil and hydrology) as well as floristic and physiognomic differences between the Upper Xingu River forest and both the Ombrophilous Forest from the Amazon Basin and the Seasonal Forest of the Central Plateau

Diagnosing applications' I/O behavior through system call observability

We present DIO, a generic tool for observing inefficient and erroneous I/O interactions between applications and in-kernel storage systems that lead to performance, dependability, and correctness issues. DIO facilitates the analysis and enables near real-time visualization of complex I/O patterns for data-intensive applications generating millions of storage requests. This is achieved by non-intrusively intercepting system calls, enriching collected data with relevant context, and providing timely analysis and visualization for traced events. We demonstrate its usefulness by analyzing two production-level applications. Results show that DIO enables diagnosing resource contention in multi-threaded I/O that leads to high tail latency and erroneous file accesses that cause data loss

Na quadrilha junina eu me divirto, eu sou artista: Sociabilidades e protagonismos juvenis nas quadrilhas juninas em Juazeiro do Norte-CE

Observando a participação juvenil nas quadrilhas e festivais juninos, o objetivo deste artigo é compreender o estabelecimento de redes de relações e sociabilidades entre jovens e como constroem determinados mecanismos de participação nos festivais institucionalizados. Os dados apresentados foram elaborados através de análises etnográficas e entrevistas em grupos de discussão, realizadas entre fevereiro e agosto de 2015 com a Agremiação Junina Cariri, de Juazeiro do Norte-CE. Considera-se que as quadrilhas juninas sejam espaços de relações que se dissipam para além das temporalidades efêmeras dos festejos juninos, abrindo margem para confecção de redes de sociabilidades e de protagonismos que põem distintos jovens em contato entre si na cidade, onde atuam como ‘artistas’. São também grupos que possibilitam relações outras para além de instituições como família e escola.The aim of this article is to understand the establishment of networks of relationships and sociabilities among young people and how they construct certain mechanisms of participation in the institutionalized festivals. The data presented were elaborated through ethnographic analyzes and interviews in groups of discussion, carried out between February and August of the year 2015 with the Junina Cariri Association of Juazeiro do Norte-CE. The juninas gangs are considered to be spaces for relations that dissipate beyond the ephemeral temporalities of the June celebrations, opening the door for networks of sociabilities and protagonisms that put different young people in contact with each other in the city, where they act as' artists '.
